Volunteer Mentor Recruitment is now in full swing. Raise is looking to recruit at least 2,000 mentors for young people in 2020. Do you know someone who would make a great mentor or could volunteer some time to help with recruitment?
It is Raise’s vision to create a powerful mentoring movement of thriving communities across Australia. Young people need a neutral positive role model, someone who takes the time to really listen to what they are saying.
About the Program
Raise understands the difference a mentor makes in a young person’s life, by ensuring young people feel heard, valued and supported. Statistically significant outcomes identified in young people graduating from Raise’s programs include increased confidence and coping skills, plus the ability to set goals and ask trusted adults for help.
To be eligible, volunteers need to be over 21 years, hold full Working With Children and National Crime checks plus undertake Raise’s highly accredited mentor training (comprised of 6 hours online and 6 hours face to face free training). Mentors are then required to commit to a program in a local secondary school for 2 hours per week during term time for the duration of six months.
How can you Help?
- Sign up to become a Mentor. Learn more about the difference mentors made to Raise’s Ambassadors at www.letterstomymentor.com.au. Then simply click the Become a Mentor button and fill in the form.
- Become a Volunteer Recruitment Champion (VRC). VRCs volunteer as much (or as little) time as they are able to give by spreading the word about Raise through their community networks. As a VRC, you are our voice in your local community, helping us to recruit volunteer Raise mentors. You’ll be fully supported and we provide all the materials you’ll need (check out the Recruitment Tool Kit or visit www.raise.org.au/help-us-recruit). “We believe it is a social imperative to support our young people. Now is the time to unite and create a mentoring movement. We are asking individuals around the country to come and mentor with us, to empower young people and create thriving communities.” (Vicki Condon AM, Founder and CEO of Raise)
